Submersible pumps are installed in wells wherever it is not possible to connect to the water supply system. This makes it possible to safely supply water to a building. They are used primarily when the water table in the well is more than eight metres below ground, in the aquifer. Pumps are selected according to the type of well—dug or drilled—as well as the maximum water demand and the required minimum pressure. Their capacity is very important, but it is not the only consideration. Find out what it means and which other parameters should be taken into account when choosing a device.
What does the capacity of a deep well depend on, and what does it mean?
The capacity of the submersible pumps we offer, in other words their flow rate, which is needed to meet the water demand of a given household, depends on the device model. It is selected according to water demand, assuming that all water outlets will not be turned on at the same time. Also remember that the pump capacity should be lower than the well’s capacity, which is why proper well design is so important. Exceeding the permitted capacity can damage the filter and consequently make it impossible to continue using the well. In a single-family home occupied by four or five people, the hydrofor capacity should be approximately 1–3 m3/h.
What is the pumping head?
Another important parameter is the pumping head, which consists of the difference in elevation between the submersible pump and the highest outlet. Linear and local losses are also needed to calculate the pumping head. They occur due to fluid friction against the inner surface of the pipes and changes in the direction of flow. When the well is located a short distance from the house, local and linear losses may account for up to 20% of the geometric pumping head.
When choosing a submersible pump, factors such as the type of well, its depth, and its distance from the residential building must not be overlooked. The height of the building, the number of people who will use the water, and whether it will also be used to water the garden are also important.
