The conversion of m water column (mH₂O) into bar is based on the value adopted in the pumping technique 1 mH₂O = 9806.65 Pa (at water density 1000 kg/m³ and acceleration due to gravity 9.80665 m/s²) — therefore the popular simplification "10 meters of water column is about 1 bar" is very close to the real value.
