Oil pumps are electric PO-type pumps used to transfer diesel or heating oil. They can also be used to pump fluids with similar physicochemical properties, including biodiesel. They can handle oily liquids that will not cause corrosion to the steel housing or exceed the permissible temperature. Oil pumps are used in households, as well as in industry and agriculture.
Oil pumps. Key parameters
Oil pumps are electrical devices most commonly powered by single-phase 230V/50Hz alternating current. An alternative is pumps designed to run on direct current from a 12V car battery – these pumps can usually be purchased with battery clamps included. Oil pumps are equipped with a bypass relief valve and a solids filter. Oil pumps are self-priming and can be installed permanently or used as needed. Oil pumps are most commonly centrifugal, vane models. Positive-displacement gear pumps are also available on the market. The devices are mobile and easy to transport from place to place because of their compact dimensions. Oil pumps should have an automatic flow shut-off system and a flow meter with an accuracy of at least ± 1%.
Oil pumps are equipped with a discharge hose and a suction hose with a check valve, both made of oil-resistant rubber. Remember that the size of the pump connection must match the size of the tank inlet. The most popular ones are 1”. An oil pump must be designed and used in a way that prevents water contamination or any other environmental damage. It must meet occupational health and safety requirements and EU directives.
Oil pumps. Versatile applications
Oil pumps are widely used in households, agriculture, and various branches of industry. They are ideal for transferring liquids from barrels and tankers. The pump housing is usually made of cast iron, while the impeller is made of steel. Oil pumps differ in their maximum head, expressed in meters, motor power, and maximum flow rate, specified in l/min. A universal 230V oil pump model with a 30-meter head is available with either a flow rate of 60l/min and 370W or 80 l/min and 750W. Remember that oil pumps cannot handle flammable liquids or operate in explosive atmospheres – for example, pumping petrol with them is prohibited.
Oil pumps are designed for pumping liquids with all degrees of viscosity. Such devices are also suitable for irrigation and drainage, as well as for heating, air-conditioning, fire-protection, and water-supply systems. Oil pumps are exceptionally durable and economical to operate, as well as easy to use and maintain.
