Stainless steel pumps are widely used in many branches of industry and agriculture. Stainless steel tanks are recommended for use in humid environments and are manufactured in accordance with EU standards. Various types of pumps are manufactured from INOX stainless steel, including centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, screw and peristaltic pumps, and gear pumps.

Stainless steel pumps INOX

INOX stainless steel pumps have PZH certification and a high degree of protection against water and dust ingress. They are designed for continuous operation and can handle liquids with high maximum temperatures. INOX stainless steel has special physicochemical properties and is completely corrosion-resistant. Steel does not oxidize under the influence of atmospheric factors, acids, or alkaline solutions because appropriate alloying additives protect it against these factors. The most important of these is chromium, whose content must not be lower than 11%. The higher the chromium content, the greater the resistance of INOX steel to high temperatures. Stainless steel is also used in pump manufacturing because products made from it are suitable for use in moderately or highly aggressive environments.

Stainless steel pumps are used in many branches of industry and agriculture, as well as in households. Stainless steel pumps supply households and industrial plants with water, serve to increase water pressure and provide irrigation, are used in the heating and cooling industries, and can also be used to transfer liquid media with specific properties. Stainless steel pumps are also used in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

AISI 304 and 316 steel in pump manufacturing

Four basic types of stainless steel are used in pump manufacturing, classified according to the percentage content of individual alloying additives. These include austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, and ferritic-austenitic DUPLEX steel. Austenitic AISI 304 steel is most commonly used to manufacture pumps. AISI 304 steel is characterized by excellent suitability for plastic forming and welding. It is resistant to corrosion in atmospheric environments, natural water, alkaline solutions, and certain organic and inorganic acids. It is commonly called stainless steel. Pumps made of AISI 304 steel can pump clean water, glycol, solutions of non-aggressive substances, oils and high-temperature liquids, seawater and demineralized water, as well as mild acids and bases. AISI 304 steel is approximately 30% cheaper than the related AISI 316 steel, which is why pumps made from it are also financially economical solutions.

A popular alternative to this grade for manufacturing pump bodies is AISI 316 steel, with an additional molybdenum content that increases corrosion resistance. AISI 316 steel, commonly known as acid-resistant steel, is resistant to pitting corrosion in the presence of chlorides. Pumps made from it are therefore also acid-resistant and can be used in highly aggressive environments with significant corrosion risks. Examples of applications for AISI 316 steel pumps include drainage, dewatering construction excavations and industrial tanks, and pumping wastewater. They can operate at temperatures reaching as high as 400°C.
