Montaż pompy głębinowej bez tajemnic

Submersible pumps are special-purpose devices that can operate several or even a dozen or so meters underground. They are indispensable in many situations: they supply water to households and ensure that it is available at the proper pressure at all points of use; they help draw the water needed to irrigate plants; and larger models work perfectly on a large scale in industry. However, for a submersible pump to perform its task properly, it must be installed correctly. What does this involve? How is it related to the device’s specifications? And what should you remember? We answer these and other questions in our article.

Specifications and device installation

For the installation of a submersible pump to proceed as planned, it is essential to select the device carefully. What deserves particular attention? Above all, the quality of workmanship and the quality of the materials used throughout the process. It turns out that the use of modern technologies in the motor and hydraulic components, as well as the presence of appropriate safety features, has a positive impact not only on the pump’s operation but also on the installation process. When making a selection, we must also consider the flow rate and head, as well as whether the pump can operate in so-called dirty water. It is also extremely important to check the ground and water conditions in our area. What does this mean? It is necessary to determine the depth of the aquifer and whether its level fluctuates significantly. The size of the device is also crucial—it should be smaller than the diameter of the well.

What should you remember?

In most cases, submersible pumps are installed vertically. The exception is equipment designed for installation at an angle, although no more than ninety degrees from the vertical. Importantly, if the installation takes place in a well made of concrete rings or in a tank, the device must be enclosed in a protective pipe.

A submersible pump must not be lowered to the bottom of the well. The optimal position is usually specified by the manufacturer, who provides the minimum height difference between the pump motor and the bottom of the well, the minimum water level above the pump’s hydraulic system, and the maximum depth of the pump below the water level.

It is also worth remembering that installing a submersible pump is a complex and responsible task that requires knowledge and experience. To ensure that the device operates properly, you should therefore seek the assistance of specialists.

Submersible pump—how to install it?

To install a submersible pump, it is necessary to gather all the components included in the so-called pump set. The most important ones include a pressure tank, submersible pump, three-way outlet, pressure switch, pressure gauge, check valve, connector, and well cover.

We begin by connecting the appropriate components, namely attaching the pump together with the check valve, connector, and cover directly to the submersible motor. Next, we need to:

  • screw the check valve and connector into the pump,
  • connect the supply pipe to the submersible pump,
  • tighten the cover,
  • place the electrical cable in the designated opening in the cover,
  • connect the water supply pipe.

Once these steps have been completed, we can place the pump in the well. The next important steps involve:

  • securing the submersible pump’s cable near the cover,
  • closing the well with the cover,
  • connecting the water discharge pipe to the pressure tank,
  • installing the accessories, including the pressure gauge, pressure switch, and three-way outlet.

After completing all these steps, it is time to mount the tank on the wall, connect the PE pipe to the five-way outlet installed on the tank, and connect the electrical cable to the pressure switch.

Of course, every situation requires analysis and flexibility. For example, although in most cases the pump should be installed so that the lowest dynamic water level is at least two meters above the pump’s discharge connection, not every system allows this. If you encounter such a problem, special protection devices should be installed to prevent the pump from running dry. In addition, when lowering the pump, make sure that the power cable is secured to the discharge pipe with plastic cable ties so that it does not break or become damaged. A check valve should be installed directly above the pump to protect the device against impacts from returning water.

Proper protection

Before beginning regular use of the pump, it is important to remember several necessary safety measures. First, it is worth checking the well’s capacity. How can this be done? Pumping water continuously for at least one hour may be helpful. If the water being extracted is intended for human consumption, its suitability and composition must be tested. Safety also depends on sealing all components, which prevents drinking water from mixing with groundwater.

For the entire installation to operate without disruptions, the electrical cable must be laid properly and secured with plastic clamps that reduce strain. Seasonal low and even subzero temperatures should also be taken into account, as they can cause minor or major damage. To prevent this, it is worth using a thermal and insulating layer and remembering to lay the most important components at an appropriate depth. Importantly, the pipes we use should be connected with flexible lines that eliminate vibrations and protect them against dangerous leaks.
