UV sterilizers are used for cleansing/disinfecting water from bacteriological pollution, which can be found in water sources, e.g. in shallow wells or surface intakes. The principle of disinfection of sterilizers is based on the bactericidal effect of UV lamps in which they are equipped. The bactericidal effect consists in absorbing UV light by the structures of the DNA of microorganisms. By using the intensity and time of exposure of UV rays, you can practically completely destroy microorganisms by destroying their DNA.
Exposure of water with UV rays is one of the most effective and safest methods of purification, because the water is not cleaned by chemical compounds. The advantage is the advantage of the lack of influence on the properties of water, such as taste and smell. Depending on the demand for water, sterilizers can be equipped from 1 to even 8 lamps. The lamps that were used in IBO sterilizers are produced by Philips, and their service life is determined at 8000 hours. The smallest sterilizers are adapted to the flow from 1 liter/min, the largest - available to order - up to 3600 l/min. An important aspect of the use of sterilizers equipped with UV lamps is the continuous operation of the lamps, even if there is no water flow: frequent switching on and off the UV lamp significantly reduces its service life.
It should be remembered that the efficiency of the sterilizer depends largely on the quality of the water that flows through it, which is why we order the use of narrative filters in front of the sterilizer to remove all mechanical impurities, such as sand. In addition, it should be borne in mind that iron content and water hardness also have an impact on the effectiveness of water purification. Iron found in water should not exceed 0.1 mg/l, while the water hardness should be lower than 110 caco3 mg/l.
