Expansion vessels for hot water IBO ITALY are membrane pressure vessels used in domestic hot water installations to stabilize the pressure and compensate for the thermal expansion of water. They have a blue outer coating and are designed to work in closed water systems in the temperature range from approx. -10 to 100 °C (short-term up to 130 °C, max. 2 h).
Purpose and principle of operation
- The vessel takes over the excess volume of water generated during heating, limiting the pressure increase in the hot water installation and protecting the fittings and the safety valve against frequent activation.
- The interior of the tank is divided by a flexible membrane into water and gas parts; an increase in pressure on the water side causes compression of the gas cushion and gentle equalization of pressure in the installation.
Operating conditions and pressure
- The design of the vessels is designed for pressure up to 25 bar, which should be treated as a limit value - permissible momentary load; in practice, the operating pressure of the system and the setting of the safety valve should be significantly lower.
- The tanks are adapted to the typical operating temperature range of hot water installations: from negative installation temperatures to approximately 100 °C, allowing for a short-term increase in the medium temperature to 130 °C, which corresponds to the resistance of standard EPDM membranes used in this type of devices.
Construction and execution
- Expansion vessels for hot water IBO ITALY are steel pressure vessels covered with a durable blue paint coating, protecting against corrosion in typical operating conditions of internal installations.
- As standard, they have threaded connections (3/4" or 1") for connection to safety groups or hot water installations, and the replaceable membrane is adapted to contact with utility water in accordance with the requirements for expansion vessels for drinking water.
