Stal nierdzewna w konstrukcjach pomp

Stainless steel pumps are widely used in many industries and agriculture. Stainless steel tanks are recommended for use in humid environments and are manufactured in accordance with EU standards. Various types of pumps are made of INOX stainless steel, ranging from centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, through screw and peristaltic pumps, to gear pumps.

Stainless steel pumps INOX

INOX stainless steel pumps are PZH certified and have a high class of protection against water and dust ingress. They are designed for continuous operation and handle liquids with high maximum temperatures. INOX stainless steel has special physicochemical properties and is completely resistant to corrosion. Steel does not oxidize under the influence of atmospheric factors or acids and alkaline solutions, because it is protected against this by appropriate alloy additions. The most important of them is chromium, the content of which cannot be less than 11%. The higher the chromium content, the greater the resistance of INOX steel to high temperatures. Stainless steel is used in the production of pumps also because products made of it are suitable for use in moderately or very aggressive environments.

Stainless steel pumps are used in many industries and agriculture, as well as in households. Stainless steel pumps supply households and industrial plants with water, are used to increase water pressure and irrigation, are used in the heating and cooling industry, and can also be used to pump liquid media with specific properties. Stainless steel pumps are also used in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

AISI 304 and 316 steel in pump production

Four basic types of stainless steel are used in the production of pumps, the classification criterion of which is the percentage of individual alloy additions. In this way, austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and ferritic-austenitic DUPLEX steels can be distinguished. AISI 304 austenitic steel is most often used for the production of pumps. AISI 304 steel is characterized by excellent suitability for forming and welding. It is resistant to corrosion in atmospheric environments, natural water, alkaline solutions and some organic and inorganic acids. It is commonly called stainless steel. AISI 304 steel pumps can pump clean water, glycol, solutions of non-aggressive substances, oils and liquids at high temperatures, sea and demineralized water, and light acids and bases. AISI 304 steel is about 30% cheaper than the related AISI 316 steel, therefore pumps made of it are also economical solutions in financial terms.

A frequently used alternative to this grade in the production of pump bodies is AISI 316 steel with additional molybdenum content, which increases corrosion resistance. AISI 316 steel, the popular acid steel, is resistant to pitting corrosion in the presence of chlorides, therefore pumps made of it are also acid-resistant and can be used in environments with high aggressiveness and significant corrosion hazards. Examples of applications of AISI 316 steel pumps include drainage, dewatering of construction excavations and industrial tanks, or pumping sewage water. They can operate at temperatures up to 400°C.
