Peripheral pump - what is it?
A peripheral pump (also known as peripheral pump or regenerative pump) is a centrifugal pump enriched with additional parameters. Its main element is an impeller equipped with a set of short blades located on the outer circumference of the pump. Thanks to the appropriate setting of the entire mechanism, the rotor rotates in a concentric collecting channel.

It turns out that repeated circulation of liquid between the palisade of the rotor blades and the collecting channel causes an increase in pressure on the way from the suction port to the discharge port. Thanks to this, peripheral pumps achieve the highest lifting heights - the largest, as much as two hundred meters per stage. This result is a phenomenon among other centrifugal pumps of a similar type. Additionally, peripheral pumps are characterized by the lowest speed characteristics. Their main features also include the high steepness of the QH curve and the ability to work even when there is a large amount of gases in the liquid or strongly developed cavitation. It is worth remembering that peripheral pumps should always be started with the discharge valve open.
Main use
Due to their design, peripheral pumps cannot be used in all conditions. Their mechanism works efficiently only in clean water, i.e. water that is free of impurities, including various types of fragments, solid, abrasive or fibrous bodies. If the above-mentioned elements are present in the pumped liquid, the mechanism may fail or be completely damaged. It is also important that the water does not contain harmful chemicals that could cause corrosion.

The construction concept can be divided into two main parts: the hydraulic part and the engine necessary for operation. The peripheral pump is, as we mentioned, a centrifugal pump, usually single-stage and monoblock, performing suction on a horizontal axis and pumping vertically upwards. Most standard proposals are based on elements such as a suction port, cast iron body, pump impeller, ceramic stuffing box, rubber flinger, ball bearings, stainless steel shaft, discharge port, cast iron cover-connector and terminal box.
