Circulation pumps are one of the most important elements of a modern heating system. Generally speaking, their main task is to induce the flow of liquids in the circulation of heating installations, and thus increase the efficiency of such a system. However, many people wonder whether the use of a circulation pump is necessary? And if so, in what situation? And what is worth paying attention to? We discuss this topic in our article.
Circulation pump - when should it be used?
A circulation pump is a way to solve many problems, which previously remained unanswered. For example, in older installations, the room heating process was based on the natural buoyancy force resulting from the difference in the density of hot and cold water. However, such functioning was associated with numerous limitations, including: with the specific structure of the entire installation. Previously used methods were also associated with:
- the need to place the boiler lower than the radiators,
- with the need to select pipes with relatively large diameters,
- the need to properly arrange pipes to reduce flow resistance.
The solution to the problems mentioned above, and at the same time a method adapted to the growing expectations of customers, is the use of circulation pumps. Why? Their use allows you to eliminate the most common difficulties, such as poor heating or uneven heat distribution. The pump allows you to achieve excellent efficiency, even if our installation has been designed incorrectly or carelessly. The use of a high-quality circulation pump also allows you to solve the problem of pipes becoming overgrown with stone, and thus reducing their throughput, which is characteristic of older structures.
One or two devices?
Depending on our needs, we can use one or two separate devices that will increase the efficiency of our heating installation. The final decision should depend primarily on the size of the entire system and its diversity. In the case of single-family houses, one well-chosen solution may be sufficient circulation pump. However, if we own a building with both radiators and other heat sources, such as underfloor heating, it is advisable to use additional support, i.e. two pumps.
It is also worth adding that in strategic facilities where there cannot be an interruption in the heat supply, it is recommended to use the so-called dual systems. This means it is necessary to create a system consisting of a primary pump and a reserve pump.
What are the benefits of using circulation pumps?
The use of circulation pumps has numerous advantages. Some of them are:
- high efficiency, which means greater savings and lower heating costs,
- no need to plan radiators vertically and ensure a minimum distance from the boiler,
- possibility of more flexible expansion of the heating system,
- possibility of using modern thermostatic valves,
- extremely easy temperature regulation in all rooms,
- faster and more even heating of radiators and, consequently, rooms,
- high efficiency, quiet operation and reliability confirmed by opinions,
feeling of comfort.
